Three proposals for installations at the university of minnesota landscape arboretum. The topic was water and it's role in our lives and the world.

We were really inspired by the fact that the average mature tree uses about 100 gallons of water a day. We wanted to express that. We came to believe people take water for granted... turn on the faucet and there's water. We wanted to inspire to think about water differently. We wanted our installation to be extremely cheap and simple. We wanted to remind people of the hydrological cycle. We wanted to make people ponder their consumption.

Proposals

1. Falling Water - Taking our visual inspiration in part from installations by artist Cornelia Parker we sought to express our points by hanging 100 gallons of water in typical plastic water bottles from a wood frame. We hoped people would see the amount of water require for each tree and make a connection to their own lives and their own consumption of water.

2. Water Park - An anchored floating platform with 100 gallons of water in typical plastic water bottles. We hoped to achieve similar goals with this installation. The bottles laid out in a tight grid like pattern express man's appropriation of water and our hope was that the contrast between a natural pond and the raft would bring to mind the differences in our natural environment's that contain water and our commodification of it.

3. The Hydrological Cycle - What we thought was an ultra simple, somewhat humorous visual expression of the infinitely complex and beautiful cycle water exists in on our planet. A sprinkler sits in the middle of a pond and waters itself.
