The clients in this project are both big Minneapolis art and design community figures. Maurice is one of the founders of a fantastic furniture company called Blu Dot and his wife Sally is Co-Chair of the Collectors Council at the Walker Art Center. They have a lovely old home in the Lowry Hill neighborhood. Much of the decor inside is modern and we felt it would be nice to bring a hint of that to the exterior of the home as well. We replaced the front concrete steps and sidewalk with the classically elegant New England bluestone. The modern twist is a hint of cor-ten steel underneath each steps exaggerated overhang. The historic home has iron in the tuck points of its brick and there's a subtle connection between old and new.
