Do Research is the name of a much loved, dearly departed blog kept by Eric Olson and Nicole Dotin while they lived in England. It is missed by many - particularly ROLU. While in Europe, the couple began to explore plans to build their own modern home on return to America. After meeting through the blogosphere, Eric and ROLU's Matt Olson (no relation!) kept in touch and when the couple finally returned to Minneapolis and decided to build a Flatpak,we were engaged to design and install its surrounding landscape.
The cedar panels on the home are absolutely stunning and were an obvious point of inspiration. Raised cedar platform 'sidewalks' will provide connections to the different areas around the site, and the plant selection will consist solely of native grasses and groundcovers as loose, more organically shaped balancing points to the structures beautiful and precise geometry.
We can't wait to show you how things progress here!
And how could we not add that Nicole and Eric are also Process Type Foundry, a celebrated type design firm. We encourage you to watch their recent talk at the Walker Art Center, as a part of the Walker Design Department's Insights Lecture Series. We loved it!
Please, check in on this project in the coming months! Completion of Phase 1 is slated for summer 2009.
